A review of the first quarter 2011

Wow..where has the time gone?  Seems like it was just Christmas.  Thought I'd try this blogging thing..not sure that I'll be able to keep it up or if it will be worthwhile with all of the FB use.  Well, I was thinking that the first quarter was pretty un-eventful, but there was this one thing in February....I sprained my ankle!  Shocking to many I'm sure!  As I was leaving work there was not an ounce of snow on the ground, but there was this small patch of black ice that I didn't see as I was trotting to my car after work.  I fell and well, let's just say it wasn't pretty.  The Dr. said it was the worst sprain from a slip-n-fall he'd seen - again my luck.  I was on crutches for about 5 weeks.  My family was great, although their sympathy run out a couple incidents ago :)  I'm healing fine, it's just going to take probably 6-12 months to be back to where it was.

In March I took the kids on an overnight trip to Shipshewana to an indoor waterpark over spreak break.  They enjoyed it.  How could I forget the newest addition to our family in early March....that's right Chase has 4-H pigs!  We welcomed to the family "6-pack" and "Bandit".  We officially have a pork producer on our hands :)  This has been an interesting time because we have no idea how to raise these animals and we are lucky to have wonderful neighbors with boys that can mentor Chase...and not to mention let his pigs live there instead of home!  Once we know this will not be a once and done for Chase we might have to look at making a home for them here - but for now I'm good with smelling and not seeing :)  There have been several funny pig poop stories that will make for good scrapbook moments - like Chase slipping on a gate and falling in poop covered from head to toe - in his ears and nostrils!!  Probably not funny for him at the time, but we all laugh now LOL!

April started BASEBALL/SOFTBALL practice...yippee!!!  My favorite sport.  This is Brynn's first year of softball and Chase's last for Cal Ripken minors.  This crazy weather has not been favorable for the kids' practices.  The game season started the first week of May with Brynn having 3 games and Chase 1.  Brynn will tell you they are 2-3 (they tied one 0-0 and won the other by forfeit because the team didn't show)!  Whatever...I would call it that too!  Chase's first game didn't fare so well...but in spite of that he did awesome.  He played second base and got several outs and was the only person to score - the one point of the game!  Exciting times.  With 17 softball games and roughly 16 baseball games (not including tournaments) you can imagine our next month and a half will be spent in the car and on the ball field!
